My system is freezing intermittently. It sometimes wakes back up and sometimes doesn't and I have to hard reset. This is the output in dmesg:
http://pastebin.com/vi6NZREb
I know I have some kind of a problem with xhci_hcd USB which I think is related to overloading the USB3 port on my laptop via a hub and USB ethernet adapters. Unfortunately I need to keep all of them attached. I'm OK with the USB port dying periodically ('modprobe -r xhci_hcd && modprobe xhci_hcd' always revives it) but I'm hoping there's a solution or workaround for the system freezes. |

I read that output to mean that the kernel becomes stuck, probably due to your USB failure. Please try to reproduce the problem without overloading the USB port. Once the problem is isolated, please file a bug report. |

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but I think this has been fixed by disabling CONFIG_USB_DEFAULT_PERSIST. What implications does this have for a connected USB SSD or HD? The description says:
Quote: | If you say N it will make suspended USB devices that lose power get reenumerated as if they had been unplugged, causing any mounted filesystems to be lost. |
Does that mean if a USB drive is mounted and suspended and then loses power, data on the mounted filesystem could become corrupted? What does "suspended" mean in this context?
Should I file the bug at kernel.org? |

I spoke too soon. I'm trying another USB hub now. |

It was the D-Link USB hub. The system works fine with an Amazon Basics USB hub. |
