Hi,

trying to mount my encrypted usb-harddrive in kde4 I get somthing like a permission error:
Code:
An unspecified error has occured: Not authorized to perform operation

I can still mount it via command line, but cannot figure out, where I should have set the permission. How can I possibly get more information about what's really going wrong?

Regards Andreas

how do you unlock the drive and mount it from the terminal?

the volume is encrypted using what? LUKS or TRUECRYPT?

It's a LUKS device, i.e., I use
Code:
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sd[xy] crypt
mount /dev/mapper/crypt /mnt/crypt

from the terminal. Actually I forgot to mount the harddrive this way, until it stopped working under kde4.

something must be wrong somewhere between udisks and polkit

you can use udisks from the terminal to see if it will work or what error it will generate if it doesnt

below is an example of what i did to unlock and mount a LUKS volume using udisksctl

Quote:

[ink@mtz zc]$ udisksctl unlock -b /dev/sdc2
Passphrase:
Unlocked /dev/sdc2 as /dev/dm-0.
[ink@mtz zc]$ udisksctl mount -b /dev/dm-0
Mounted /dev/dm-0 at /media/80d95e22-1344-441a-b0ae-741164312dee.
[ink@mtz zc]$

you can run "udisksctl -h" to get more options.

you can also use zuluCrypt[1] to manage your LUKS volume,it does not use udisks or polkit and hence does not suffer from their "issues".

Hi,

udisksctl wants my root password

Code:
udisksctl unlock -b /dev/sde3
Passphrase:
==== AUTHENTICATING FOR org.freedesktop.udisks2.encrypted-unlock ===
Legitimierung ist zum Entsperren des verschlüsselten Geräts (/dev/sde3) notwendig
Authenticating as: root

So where do I find the config file to change this behaviour?

Regards Andreas

your problem could be the same problem discussed in this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-980354-highlight-.html
