|
|
I recently upgraded my box from redhat to gentoo. Everything worked like a charm except one thing. Downloading from my samba share to a winxp box goes fast (9000KB/s), but when I try to upload to it I only get slow speeds (666KB/s). This used to work under redhat.
I tried to search the forums, but could only find people with slow d/l problems.
Code: | gentoo root # ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:29:93:AF:89
inet addr:192.168.0.198 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

I noticed all the errorous packages for the RX conenction. And just to try, I upped a few more megs and the number rized. Can this be a problem with the driver? Is this the likely cause to my problem?
Thanks in advance for any helpfull replies
EDIT: Btw, the network card is a SMC1211TX EZCard 10/100 (RealTek RTL8139) running the 8139too driver. |

Maybe try knoppix b4 throwing gentoo out of the window? Yes, the number of errors points to a problem with the driver. Try a different kernel. Try a different 8139 driver. Try turning apic off. Try using www.scyld.org for the drivers. Try looking at dmesg to see if there's anything. |

Thanks for the reply. I'll try all those options. Btw, scyld.org don't contain no drivers, just a crazy hosting page as far as I can see. |

The drivers diden't solve the problem, actually it made a new one. Now I have hundreds (possibly infinite) /boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/boot/--etc, so I can no longer edit my grub.conf. Anybody seen this problem before? |

Installed slackware today, and that either diden't work. I guess the card is faulty. |

Before giving up, try setting the network speed yourself instead of using auto-sense on the windows machines. Set them all to 100Mbps full-duplex or whatever your network supports, and all should be well. I read in the samba FAQ somewhere this can help a lot. |
