rdl,

Welcome to gentoo.

You will find the ebuilds in the attic
Finding the sources may be harder.

Set up your own overlay (the handbook describes this), download the ebuilds you need then see what happens.

Why do you need such an old kernel and gcc ?

thanks a lot neddy
we try to go to virtualize a very old gentoo
linux to vmware. additionally the old gentoo
linux has a special kernel for nagios.

we have reached our goal to create a virtual
hostsystem included the old gentoo linux
but we dont have network adapters, the old
linux dont see the virtual network adapters.

in this situation we cant emerge the missed
network driver over network.

maybe one solution will be to burn
the missing modules and sources to cdrom
but we dont found the right sources.

rdl,

What does lspci inside VMware say the network adaptors are?
Its likely the drivers are in the kernel in your guest but you will need to build them.

I have a binary of gcc-3.3.5-r1. Its actually included in the install-x86-universal-2005.0.iso which I still have.
I can host the iso file if that will help.

The iso contains
Code:
ls /mnt/floppy/stages/*.bz2
/mnt/floppy/stages/stage3-athlon-xp-2005.0.tar.bz2  /mnt/floppy/stages/stage3-pentium4-2005.0.tar.bz2
/mnt/floppy/stages/stage3-i686-2005.0.tar.bz2       /mnt/floppy/stages/stage3-x86-2005.0.tar.bz2
/mnt/floppy/stages/stage3-pentium3-2005.0.tar.bz2

I might even be able to find the kernel sources but they will be on a machine that has not been powered on since 2009.

rdl,

The 2005.0 Universal Installer is a bootable ISO that contains an assortment of stage3 tarballs.
Untar the stage3 of your choice, chroot into it and use its gcc or try to get quickpkg to run, so you can get a gcc only tarball.

There is a very small distfiles dir in the CD image but no kernel sources.

There is almost enough there to do a 2005 Gentoo Install.

I still have kernel 2.6.14 to hand but that is about 6 months too new for you.

Dear Neddy Sagoon,
I follow your hints, I start the gentoo linux 3.5.5 -r Live-CD
in our virtual environment on our virtual guest system in vmware.
I have trouble to go from Live-CD with chroot to our installed system.
I follow all proposals to switch with chroot to the bash of the installed
gentoo but it dosn't work.
chroot / /
permission denied

In which way I can realize a over-installation from
live-cd to our vmware-guest-system
If I start the Live-CD in the installed gentoo system
in which way I can install ?
Please consider I never work before with gentoo linux distributions.
Greetings Rolf

You'd better try an install from current then, and get used to Gentoo, before you even think about doing this.

Incidentally I think what you're doing is a terrible idea, but it's your time.

I concur with steveL, this ain't gonna be easy if you are a newcomer to Gentoo (surely not impossible, but you will have to customize a lot of things...).

You should start by training yourself by doing a current installation so you don't have to deal with all the problems at once.

Then you can do a new install with the outdated packages. But it's not going to be trivial, as said.

It's still not clear to me why you need this though. I have no experience myself with nagios, but I am sure you can get it working with current Gentoo.

thanks for your answer!
the old nagios system on gentoo stores traffic informations
from bus/trail company in germany.
the old developer isn't available furthermore.
the gentoo kernel was modified to encapsulate the software
to avoid to manipulate from newbies. we have free way
to do all what we want but the knowledge dies with the old
developer.

I'am shure to handle a basic installation and read the last 4 weeks a lot of
stuff. And I will lern, cause I like this distribution more and more

but I have problems with the documentations, maybe
a little bit more user helpfully will be fine. I hope you are not
angry with me about my little critic!?

Please give me a URL if you have to your best documentation manual
to install gentoo linux form live-cd to a hardware basis.
thanks rolf

rdl,

If you want to jump in at the deep end, the 2005.0 handbook is still online, also in German
The ISO you have allows for you to do an install without the internet but you are restriced to the binaries and source files on the CD.
Its much harder to do an old install than a current install of gentoo.

Getting the ebuilds is not a problem but getting source code and patches will be.

I agree with the others - do a current gentoo install first to become familliar with the way the package manager and other tools work, then try an old install.
You are going to have problems but as least with some practice under your belt, you will have a chance to seperate out the real problems from your inexperience with Gentoo.

Having said that, you should be able to follow the 2005.0 handbook with the ISO image and achieve an install without using the internet, just as users did in 2005.

I reccomend that you find some real 32 bit hardware to install on. Virtualisation is another layer of complexity you don't need. Some virtualisation solutions don't take kindly to 10 year old software either.

Nobody is angry with you. The advice so far has been along the lines of "If I was going where you are going, I wouldn't start from where you are" because you are asking for help with your perceived solution to your problem, rather than sharing the problem and asking for potential modern solutions.
I think it will be fun trying a 10 year old install - it might not succeed, but it will still be fun.
