|
|
I've just committed net-im/gaim and net-im/gaim-encryption packages that are now separate from each other. This is as of gaim-0.75-r3. gaim-encryption obviously depends on >=gaim-0.75-r3.
This is good for all of us in so many ways. encryption users won't have to re-install all of gaim just to update encryption. Those who don't want encryption won't be prompted with new gaim revisions solely for encryption bumps.
From a package management point of view this allows us to give gaim-encryption the treatment of a proper package and copy it's docs and such into the system that were previously ignored.
Thanks to gaim-encryption author Bill Tompkins for helping me through this process. |

Glad i caught this. Thanks for taking the time to explain the reason, although I probably could have lived with "because" _________________ --

What happens when gaim gets updated and the installed version of gaim-encryption won't compile under it? If a user has both gaim and gaim-encryption installed won't gaim-encryption be temporarily b0rked until a new version is released? _________________ Wasurenaide...

Cool. I'm a avid user of gaim encryption.
Admiral LSD`: yes, but that's the way it goes. It's the same with shared libraries. It's really _not_ a problem genereally unless the author of one of the packages is away and can't update. |

UPDATE: I've just added PDEPEND to gaim so, if you have USE="ssl", the gaim ebuild will automatically install gaim-encryption afterward.
Thanks to vapier for pointing that tip out to me. |

having emerge problems..
Code: | checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking for gcc option to accept ANSI C... none needed
checking for gaim header files... /usr/include/gaim/src
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for mozilla-nss... Package mozilla-nss was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `mozilla-nss.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'mozilla-nss' found
checking for Mozilla nspr4 includes... no
configure: error: You need to specify --with-nspr-includes="dir"
(where "dir" is the location of the NSPR headers like prio.h)
!!! ERROR: net-im/gaim-encryption-2.21 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 339, Exitcode 1
!!! econf failed |
but i have nspr installed... and mozilla-firebird...
Code: | # etcat -v nspr
[ Results for search key : nspr ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]
* dev-libs/nspr :
[ ] dev-libs/nspr-4.1.2 (0)
[ ] dev-libs/nspr-4.3 (0)
[ I] dev-libs/nspr-4.4.1 (0)

well... i filled out a bug report
to fix this problem w/ the emerge, i used:
Code: | # USE="-mozilla" emerge gaim-encryption |
and it emerges...
however... when i try to run the plugin, i get this:
Error opening file: No such file or directory
Error opening file: No such file or directory
and then gaim dies gracefully (no debug msgs besides this)... _________________ a razamatan doth speaketh,

lol... i love it when i fix things myself...
go see the bug report i filed if you wanna see my trek...
but the short of it:
if you run *just* mozilla-firebird and have nspr and nss installed, then you need to USE="-mozilla" for both emerges of gaim and gaim-encryption. _________________ a razamatan doth speaketh,

Yes you are correct.
If you have mozilla in use, however, then mozilla should be installed as a dependency, so it should have worked. |

Are you talking about yahoo? The patch in -r7 introduced a bug in yahoo login. It has been fixed in gaim-0.75-r8. Please rsync and update. |

I injected one, only because epiphany was injected... because the gnome meta package is retarded (but this is off topic).. _________________ a razamatan doth speaketh,

Well then there is nothing I can do in the ebuild. All I can do is check portage to see if mozilla is installed. Your portage said it was.
Bottom line is if you aren't using mozilla you should have USE="-mozilla" in make.conf anyway. |
