I've used Gnome and *box for a long time, and I just recently installed the beta version of kde to see whats new. It looks pretty much the same, but I'm going to be fair and give it a shot.
If anybody would be so kind as to post cool kde screenshots, I'd appreciate it. I tried making the menubar transparent, but the window list is still opaque. So I changed it back.
Also, I keep getting error messages about sound and a cpu overload. Is that just a bug or what? I'm not seeing any negative impact.... _________________ The specs on the box said windows 98 or better, so I installed gentoo. |

And another thing, what do you specify in /etc/rc.conf to get kde to start? I tried "kde" "kde-1.9.4". Nothing is working! I'd rather set it in .xinitrc. Right now I'm using kdm. Thanks _________________ The specs on the box said windows 98 or better, so I installed gentoo. |

Uner /etc/rc.conf set it to to kde-<version>. To see what this can be set to run:
Code: | ls /etc/X11/Sessions |
The *boxes won't show up there since you need to start them (AFAIK) with .xinitrc.
You can either get KDE screenshots here (just browse the screen shot threads that go up monthly) or try kde-look.org under screenshots.
To set kicker to transparent you have to be using 3.2 (which you are, just in case though) and then change it to transparent under the Advanced Options button as well as check "enable transperancy" under kickers apperance settings.
I get the same error message that you are but I believe it's because my ALSA still isn't set right and I'm not using ARTS. |
