|
|
I just bought the DELL W2300 LCT TV and I really like it as a TV and as a monitor. However, I can't get my X11 to use the correct resolution of 1280x768. I know I need to add my own "Modeline" but I have no idea what it is supposed to be. I've used this modeline calculator but I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have the manual, of course, and can see the specs, but I'm not sure what relates. At leat I haven't gotten it to work yet. Here are the specs:
Code: |
Display Mode: 1280x768
Horizontal Freqency (kHz): 60.289
Vertical Frequency (Hz): 74.893
Pixel Clock (MHz): 102.25
Sync Polarity (H/V): +/-

Any help would be appreciated. _________________ Life is too short and too important to { take seriously | use Windows }. |

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about.. but this is my screen section from my /etc/X11/XF86Config file...
Code: |
Section "Screen"
Identifier "laptop"
Device "onboard_vid"
Monitor "laptop"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
|
It goes from left to right when using resolution.. first tries 1600x1200... then 1280x1024 and so on... |

nepenthe, thanks for the information. However, I do understand the Modes lines for the graphics card screen resolution. However, my problem is that I can't get X to do the right Monitor resolution because I can't figure out what the "modeline" line should be for the monitor (in the Monitor section). There are ways to figure what the line is supposed to be with the details I have, but I'm not sure how to do it. _________________ Life is too short and too important to { take seriously | use Windows }. |

I was just thinking (after looking through my xfree.log) that maybe my graphics card can't do 1280x768. I have an older nVidia GeForce card. That would suck greatly. _________________ Life is too short and too important to { take seriously | use Windows }. |

freedonkey, I'm not sure what is wrong with your keyboard, but it looks like you missed a bunch of letters from your words.
It is not my monitor that is the problem. I know what the resolution is for the monitor, it's just that I can't get my graphics card to do it. I finally realized that maybe my old video card (nVidia GeForce 256 SD) can't actually do 1280x768 resolution.
I got a new computer and it has a new video card which can actually do the resolution I want. I still had to calculate the modeline using the calculator I specified, but it works now. _________________ Life is too short and too important to { take seriously | use Windows }. |
