bunder,
amd64 testing is going to be harder that I though.
I'm running Olde Fashioned Gentooee and mate wants lots of things I have in p.mask.
I'll need to add the USE flag to fix that.
That will make my amd64 versions impossible to upstream.
arm64 will be easier. That's difficult enough without the complications of Olde Fashioned Gentooee. _________________ Regards,

bunder,
I've built the arm64 binaries and posted one issue on your github. You can keep the ~arm64 keywords.
The binaries are installing on my Pi3 for testing as I write. _________________ Regards,

Yeah I just hit that, it's been fixed. Thanks
edit: I appear to be all built now, will log out that machine and see what happens when I wake up. _________________

bunder,
I'm posting this using midori on mate-1.20 on a Raspberry Pi 3 in 64 bit mode.
Firefox and Chromium both work too but are a bit bloated for a poor wee Raspberry Pi 3.
I've started things and nothing has crashed.
Conclusion ... seems to work on ~arm64
-- edit --
It seems to word on ~amd64 too. I only had to adapt a couple of ebuilds to work with a static /dev. _________________ Regards,

It would be great to test ~amd64 mate-1.20, if gentoo-portage would have that ebuilds _________________ Do not use gentoo, it die |

overlay ebuilds have been refreshed to reflect the most current versions of 1.20
edit: I take that back, it needs some work, atril is not happy
edit: atril should be working now, all packages emerged successfully _________________

Just updated one of my systems from Mate-1.14 to 1.18 from gentoo's portage and so far no immediate issues. Still in the process of testing though.
Built it without gtk3 support due to annoying issues introduced by the use of gtk3.
I would prefer not installing another overlay so I will wait to test 1.20 until it makes its way into portage.

I have to correct myself here. Many packages in >=Mate-1.18 have required dependencies on x11-libs/gtk+3. The current stable one being x11-libs/gtk+-3.22.19. So MATE-1.18 can't be built without gtk+3. |

just wanted to make a quick post here, there hasn't been any upstream 1.20 bumps in the past couple weeks, so if the overlay looks stale, it's still okay, i'm keeping an eye on it. _________________

bunder: Thank you for all the excellent work you're doing.
same to Neddy for the arm64/static-dev testing and patching.
You both really should be ebuild developers, IMO. |

yes that directory has been there for a while, but its only a couple packages, and i don't plan on including those until the whole suite has been updated. _________________

Wow this is really great, I was literally imagining how terrble it is to have to wait for something like DE to make it to the portage tree so that the newer features are available I was able to install this thanks to whoever ported it (into bunder2015 repo)...I was able to use eselect repository to add and install was a cinch. |

A short and long changelog can be found on mate's release notes: http://mate-desktop.org/blog/2018-02-07-mate-1-20-released/
I was mostly into it for dropping old gtk2 bits. I think I'm running entirely off gtk3 now so that's nice. Unfortunately I don't have a HiDPI display so I can't test that out, but I can imagine that being nice for those that do. _________________

I will try to test that mate-1.20 soon on clean Gentoo install. _________________ Do not use gentoo, it die |

Looks like mate stopped pushing updates again. I've been watching but nothing since the 19th.

Still quiet on the mate front... I wonder if they might be getting ready for 1.22. _________________

What is stopping you from filing a GitHub PR with your 1.20 bump? |

I have my reasons. I believe ebuilds are covered under GPLv2 so anyone (including gentoo devs) is free to do that for me if they so desire. I'm quite comfortable maintaining the overlay but I agree it would be nice for someone to take these off my hands. _________________

Finally some good news about Mate in Gentoo. Mate-1.18 is in the process of being stabilized. x86 is already marked stable in the tree and amd64 should be available by late day or tomorrow. So maybe we'll get 1.20 in the official tree for testing very soon.
