I have finally managed to start X with the Xterm windows. Had to rebuild kernel 3 times, restarted from genkernel, followed the instructions above and took a chance in disabling what seemed obviously unnecessary items in kernel configuration.
Have'n t been able to install XFCE4 as wanted because now i have lost internet acess, a problem which I think deserves a new thread. This one has accomplished its mission. Thanks a lot for all the help. |

NOt sure you guys will see this as i have marked thread as SOLVED.
Would just like to report that my old G3 ibook dual, 360MB, running on only one core - these macs can't "duo" (meant as a verb) on linux - har just started XFCE4 -for the first time, after about 3 years effort (maybe even more) .
goes very slow, took a few minutes to show the desktop., refused to start desktop settings - by closing the window - and after a while gave me a long list of errors - after praising me for not having started XFCE4 as root. Then refused to startx again after exit and relogging. I may return on another thread in search for help after a few days of googling. But now i want just to sleep and celebrate. THIS FEELS REALLY GOOD. Thanks to you guys! |

Congrats Arthur Grandi! This sounds more like an Xorg or video driver problem than a XFCE problem. _________________ Talos II. [Gentoo Linux] | PMac G5 11,2. PMac G4 3,6. PBook G4 5,8. [MorphOS 3.18 / Gentoo Linux] | Vampire V4 SA [ApolloOS / Amiga OS 3.2.2] |
