Hello experts,
I have a weird problem. When my Gentoo systeem boots it hangs a this phase:
* Starting devfsd
Started device management daemon for v1.3.25 for /dev
Nothing happens after this line.
When I abort with Ctrl-C the systems continues booting for a little while and then stops when performing "Checking root filesystem"
I have 3 partittions on my system hda1, hda2 and hda3. Hda1 = boot, hda2 = swap, hda3 = root
I booted with a resque floppy and I had no problems mounting hda1 en hda3. I performed e2fsck on hda1 en hda3 and no problems were found.
I have the following questions for you:
-Why does my system hang when starting devfsd?
-What things should I check in order to solve this problems
I have googled for about 2.5 hours and I am desperate...
Kind Regards,
Dirk |

Problem is solved. I was playing with daemontool (Dan Bernstein stuff) earlier this day. I found out that I had a directory /etc/devfs.d/supervise.
The supervise directory is new. I removed the supervise directory and the problem is gone. Linux is booting perfectly again. |
