Many packages have only one available ebuild version.

Click around to see that many ebuild versions are truncated, many currently presenting only their latest beta 9999 ebuild.

- https://packages.gentoo.org/categories/net-p2p
- https://packages.gentoo.org/categories/media-sound

Ex. Mumble and rtorrent lost their stable ebuild packages.

- https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/media-sound/mumble - Missing 1.2.19 - https://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page
- https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/net-p2p/rtorrent - Missing 0.9.6 Stable - https://github.com/rakshasa/rtorrent/wiki#download-links

Where is the news about this ebuild version purge? Is there an overlay to get current stable ebuilds now?

Thank you

The mumble ebuilds were removed because the developers wanted to drop everything that depended on Qt4. No Mumble releases exist that depend on Qt5, so users must now use a live ebuild if they want to install Mumble.

Usually the older versions are dropped when a package isn't slotted, because user would always install the latest stable anyway. So, if the latest stable is working and the different versions aren't that different, there's no reason to keep the older ebuild around.

0.9.6 had so severe security bugs it even made into the news. It had to be dropped.

You can browse the git log to see dropped ebuilds, or you can use git to checkout at a certain commit. Use git history etc...

Closest place for that would be the dev mailing list, where removals usually get announced, sometimes with reasons.

Last-rites yes, but dropping old versions does not get announced on gentoo-dev unless really significant. mumble did get a sort-of-last-rite notice, because the last stable version got dropped, with the 9999 version remaining.

So rtorrent version 0.9.7 (0.9.7-r1) is not working!
Code:
$ rtorrent
rtorrent: Could not open/bind port for listening: Семейство адресов не поддерживается протоколом

It would be possible to leave 0,9,6 for a localhost.
It is a pity that we will have to eventually abandon rtorrent.
To put the Transmission to replace.

Apparently it works for other people though. But I can't decipher the foreign letters of your error message.

bagas: please run the program with LC_ALL=C, reproduce the error, and post the output.
