By my own hand. Running Arch now... Gentoo is great, if one doesn't have OCD that's all I have can say about that. Good bye! |

Good luck.
Gentoo isn't for everyone, it does have a (sometimes steep) learning curve. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Whatever.
If you've got a problem and won't explain what it is so it can be fixed, it probably isn't the distro at fault. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one popping in here out of genuine concern. I feel silly for thinking it could be serious, but people cry out for help in all sorts of different ways. I'm glad OP is just leaving to Arch! |

I'd rather death than to leave Gentoo behind... Unless it were Slackware. _________________

Bye now!
FWIW I think Arch is much more difficult than Gentoo, and I found the forums to be singularly unfriendly. Not rude, just not chatty or welcoming.
Others obviously disagree with me though, so I wish you well. |

Good luck with whatever you use, ayeyes.
My feeling is you'll be back, within 2 years or so.
That's a good thing too.
In any event, hopefully you learnt a great deal about Linux under-the-hood; it will all be useful to you in future.
Two things, if you have time. Firstly, please don't go bad-mouthing Gentoo as a distro. If you must criticize, could you do so here first?
If you must rant about us elsewhere (as is your right ofc): preferably not til you have been on another system for at least 6 months.
ie: allow a cooling-off period, and at least give us some sort of chance to respond to the specific (which might just be with: "Yeah, you're right, that sucks." If it's not a social issue: "Here's how I got round it.." because we're geeks, and even if you're leaving we like to talk about problems solved much more than problems extant.)
Secondly, do let us know what we can do better in the future.
Again, be specific: it's fine for you to rant here, as you're amongst friends who know how it feels to tear your hair out at some stupidity or another (of which there are plenty in FLOSS.)
Every developer worth the name comes from this userbase, so even if it feels like no-one is listening, and it won't have any effect; it will, nonetheless by adding to our cultural experience, and hopefully influencing some youngster who might become an ebuild-developer in the next few years.
With good wishes for your future,
steveL. |

imo, NIxOS is the only one way from Gentoo. |

That's because it's long been known that Gentoo sucks and will ultimately die.

As it happens, I've been playing with arch for about a week now. It's nice to install it as fast as you can download, and the documentation is a bit easier to follow. I've spent days trying to get X to run fast on arch, but it's still benchmarking significantly better under gentoo, even running the same kernel (file). If I have to recompile kernel, mesa, etc. to get the same performance on my laptop, I don't see the point in switching. |

I have to say I can't for the life of me see what the attraction is with Arch. I gave it a go myself a few months ago just to see what I was missing, but nope... to me it's all the drawbacks of a normal distro (Debian / CentOS - stuck with bloated kitchen sink builds that drag in more chewed up mess than the cat does) with the additional drawback that it's a constantly moving target.
Anyway, I don't really mind what other people inflict on themselves so long as Gentoo remains a working "distro", allowing me to run my nice clean desktop without any Poetteringware or similar rot.
Maybe that's why I don't find Gentoo a hassle to run when others clearly do - I'm not trying to maintain a bloated mess of a system full of stuff like Gnome or KDE with layer upon layer of unnecessary tat? |

Is there an alternative for bluetooth audio in Gentoo?
PS: I don't use bluetooth in Gentoo. Just curious. |

Very much this. It takes quite a bit of reading and google-fu to get comfortable with it.
