Easy way is to do "chmod 4711 /usr/bin/Xorg" as root and add suid flag to package.use for xorg-server
Note: The chmod does what the suid flag does when xorg-server is emerged.
OR if you really want to try your hand at non-suid X and you're not running the xorg modesetting driver then https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Non_root_Xorg _________________ UM780, 6.12 zen kernel, gcc 13, openrc, wayland |

Would be enough to setgid tty on /usr/bin/Xorg and have the user in the input/video groups, would it not? |

I had the same problem.
I installed lightdm instead and it worked. |

If you use a DM (lightd, gdm etc), instead of startx then yes it should work. _________________ UM780, 6.12 zen kernel, gcc 13, openrc, wayland |

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads in favour of startx fails with xorg-server 1.20. _________________ Kindest of regardses. |
