PostPosted: Sat Oct 27, 2018 4:17 pm    Post subject: Cannot build geogebra Reply with quote

Geogebra complains about the missing "gradle" command. Linking it to gradle-3.4.1 which exists on my computer doesn't work.

Here's the build.log:

Gentoo packages are maintained by volunteers. Fringe packages have fewer users, so there are fewer people to report version bumps and fewer people motivated to volunteer to maintain it. Find a core package that is badly out of date and you might be able to claim that Gentoo is in trouble. For packages that most people will never use, being out of date is annoying for the people who do use it, but means nothing to the health of the distribution as a whole.

i downloaded the Debian package for GeoGebra Classic 6
8)
https://wiki.geogebra.org/en/Reference:GeoGebra_Installation

unpacked it
unpacked data.tar.xz

then you could start
Code:
./geogebra-classic_6.0.529.0-201903080041_1_amd64/data/usr/share/geogebra-classic/GeoGebra

OUT OF THE BOX !!!
 without errors or strange messages

where is the problem for gentoo maintainers ??

There is a portable version too.

But, in common with many other applications nowadays, the newer version is not always better.
https://help.geogebra.org/topic/dear-devellopers-some-comments-about-geogebra-6
https://help.geogebra.org/topic/geogebra-classic-5-versus-geogebra-classic-6
https://help.geogebra.org/topic/geogebra-5-vs-6-algebra-window-and-speed

I still use Geogebra-5 and I see nothing of use to me in Geogebra-6. Perhaps the maintainer is of the same opinion.
Why don't you write an ebuild and share it?
