My mirror still has kde 3.2 masked but I did download the ebuilds OK with
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge -f kde
Is it OK now to do
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge kde
or do I have to wait until it is unmasked on my mirror? _________________ RobFish |

An internal Kopete error occurred while parsing a message:

when sending a msn message in the KDE 3.2 integrated kopete? |

I got that when 3.2 copied my 3.1 settings. Try going into the settings and choosing a new theme for your message windows (that worked when I tried it, although I've since deleted all settings, because some copied settings were causing trouble).
I have another Kopete question, though.
Most of the time when I try to log in to my AIM account, it logs in and logs out very quickly. Sometimes it stays logged in, but most times it just immediately logs out. And even when it stays logged in, it often logs out after a little while without my prompting.
No one else seems to be having AIM problems around here so I assume it's the new Kopete (although I haven't installed gaim to check or anything). Is anyone else having problems like this? It's quite annoying.
Also, the password entry dialog seems borked. It only seems to accept a certain number of letters, which is less than the number of letters in my password. I had to manually edit the wallet to make it work.
Whew, seems a little buggy. Sorry for the long post. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

You need to select a default theme in Settings/Appearance. |

it appears that Kopete is indeed still using old settings. Pointing a new message window sheme solved the problem.
The other good news: I was able to build kdegraphics (ktron problem) using the patched provided on the bugzilla page:

When I start konsole, in text mode I see:
Code: | WARNING: NAME not specified in initial startup message |
I'm writing that because sometimes konsole starts and works sloooooooooow.
Any ideas? |

You can make sure what package causes this new installs by
Code: | # emerge -Upt world |
This -t option shows the dependencies among packages with a nice tree structure. Try it!

I compiled KDE 3.2 yesterday (20 hours in my machine...). I had a bad experience with it.
First, let's talk about performance. I didn't see much difference comparing it with 3.1.4 (and I'm comfortable with it...or was...). The bigger difference I saw was when I started Konqueror, but it probably has one instance preloaded or something like that.
Now to the problems. The problem I had is that I don't have antialiased fonts in any qt application anymore. And it looks like sh*t!!!!
For example, licq
The fonts look fine in the taskbar, window titles, etc
So, I started XFCE4 and started licq and it's still borked...
Anothe curious thing is that kde 3.1.4 wasn't unmerged!!! So, I started it instead of 3.2....but it has the same problems....
I double checked the "antialiased fonts" Settings in Control Center....re-started KDE.....but it's the same....
So, I'm gonna unmerge qt, kdelibs and kde and emerge it again....I'd like to hear your opinions: do I try to install 3.1.5 or 3.2??? 3.2 may work right if I emerge it without 3.1.x installed...and 3.1.5 may be screwed too...
Any similar experiences...??
Oh!!! I forgot to mention that Konsole came with a font that is a sh*t....and when I tried to change it....it was strange....I can't explain it....and in 3.1.4 the font was also changed.... |

I don't really want to look through 11 pages of this thread, but kdegames won't compile. I have rc1 of kdegames up and running, and the rest of the 3.2 packages were fine.

It seems to be going rather well ... been compiling for the past 12 hours (pIII-500 ) I must say, 2.6.1-mm5 really performs well under this constant heavy cpu load
Anyway, so far I've tested konqueror & kopete from within xfce, no issues. Konqueror seems to be way better than the latest cvs builds I've tried (they were from October though ) I suppose konqueror 3.2 has incorporated most of the Safari improvements? _________________ panic ("No CPUs found. The -t option appears to not be available in portage-2.0.49-r21, althought I suspect the emerge -Up world will stop asking to install 3.1.5 when 3.2.0 is marked as stable, it sure would be nice to find any old dependancies and rebuild them. If you know how to find out what packages are looking for 3.1.5, please post it. Meanwhile I'm off to practice forum searches.

I've tried KDE at one of my friends house, seems very responsive compared to KDE 3.1, konqueror almost loaded instantly on his computer. I would try out KDE 3.2 but I just hate the long compile time. |

hey, any of you knows why all the transparencies from super-karamba and gdesklets don't match with the background?
I mean the image seen in the karamba theme don't "exactly" match the desktop, but another portion of it (slightly moved).
Thanks! |

Well, if you're using Gentoo, you should be prepared for that, no? Dunno, I don't even notice I'm compiling this big, bloated app That's what PORTAGE_NICENESS and kernel 2.6.1-mm5 will do for you ... Oh, and of course it helps I'll be out of town for a couple of days starting tomorrow _________________ panic ("No CPUs found. System halted.\n"); |

Fantastic! I fixed my problem, and just thought I would share it with you in case anyone else gets it.
Kdegraphics was failing to compile ksvg, specifically libtext2path. It was having troubles with the freetype headers. Throwing up such classics as:
Code: | Font.h:74: syntax error before `&'
Font.h:79: syntax error before `;'
|
and
Code: | /usr/include/freetype2/freetype/ftoutln.h:101: `FT_Error' was not declared in this scope |
Unforgettable! Each and every one of them. The problem was freetype1 and 2's headers are carelessly named, leading to header confusion for the compiler. All I had to do was rename /usr/include/freetype to /usr/include/freetype1. I don't really recommend doing this as a permanent solution, it is a bit of a hack. |

Hey guys... I wanna try kde 3.2.0, but I can't seem to get emerge to do it...
I just did an emerge sync, so I should be up to date.. I look in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask, there are no kde lines in there at all.. But when I try to do an emerge:
Code: |
cherek kde # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p kde
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] kde-base/kde-3.1.5
|
If I try to emerge the ebuild directly:
Code: |
cherek kde # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p kde-3.2.0.ebuild
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies \
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "~kde-base/kdebase-3.2.0" have been masked.
!!! (dependency required by "kde-base/kde-3.2.0" [ebuild])
!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.
|
What am I doing wrong here? |

@garion911,
just guessing, but you don't have anything in /etc/portage/package.mask do you?
as a workaround for direct emerging try this (with appropriate paths):
Code: |
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p arts-1.2.0.ebuild
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p kdelibs-3.2.0.ebuild
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p kdebase-3.2.0.ebuild
|
then whichever kde* packages you want |

Had a problem running superkaramba 0.33 with kde 3.2, don't know if this would fix your problem, but downgrading to 0.32 seemed to have fixed the staying on top problem I had with 0.33. |
