This may or may not be the place for such inquiries but yes you could. I submit to being willing and available and have installed and maintained gentoo systems worldwide via ssh for 16 years one among them a now out of business wireless isp in the Carribean, volunteered for the Gentoo Infra team long ago and have references.
If you join the Gentoo discord server you can find me there as xartin.

Cheers.
side note one subforum that was never added that may have been of interest over the many years is a Gentoo Professionals collaboration subforum. perhaps with the forum update coming that could be beneficial or of interest to some gentoo users. _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4

You can, but the first question you should answer is whether you should. What is the rough scope of work here? Are you seeking someone to handle a particularly difficult problem, and after that is done, you will maintain the server yourself? Are you planning for a long-term relationship, where the person you hire will provide routine updates to a system over a period of months or years? The general advice on the forums is that if you cannot maintain a system yourself, you will keep encountering issues that require you to seek assistance. Hiring someone for a one-off update now could be appropriate if you need the update completed by a particular deadline, and you plan to become a more proficient administrator once the time pressure is not a factor. On the other hand, if you have no intention of becoming a proficient administrator, hiring someone now will solve your immediate problem, and you will need to hire someone again in 6-12 months for your next problem. If you prefer to spend your money instead of your time, that could still be an acceptable solution. |

One key thing i've always prioritized when assisting anyone with gentoo is attempting to aid with them better understanding or becoming more proficient with Gentoo or Linux in general.
One of my somewhat recent recipients of a remote install hails from Ireland and has advanced his skills competency to great effect and has been learning to install gentoo on osx using parallels this week. I always enjoyed the mentoring opportunities Gentoo provided both for me and as a result others i've been able to assist.
Paying it forward has been a rewarding experience. I've begun contributing to gentoo wiki this year, authored a wiki guide detailing the installation config for zfsroot using efistub and maintain a listed Gentoo overlay. For several years have been providing complete precompiled gentoo stage tarballs for linux novices on /r/linux4noobs on reddit or other communities I frequent.
There's a lot of gentoo users and professionals hopefully they all have an interest in aiding others with their desires and demands for gentoo as well as contrubiting in some way to those that come next
Hu offers all the valid considerations to consider. Becoming more proficient with gentoo will aid you becoming independent with regards to administration tasks in the long run. If you need advice or are willing to submit some details about the state of your gentoo install or server everyone equally is always welcomed here to the best assistance available we as a Linux support community can provide. Often having a willing seasoned mentor can be a great benefit as well.
If hiring someone is for reasons absolutely necessary i still submit to being willing. _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4

I could help with some stuff too. Mostly work with Ubuntu (my main contractor wants his crew members to be easily replaceable and Debian is well known in the industry), but having a decade of experience with Gentoo I am pretty comfortable with it.
natanver, I strongly recommend providing more details regarding the problem at hand upfront. It reduces the ping-pong count and allows the willing individuals to asses whether or not they have what you need. |
