this may change with the phpbb3 migration... so I guess for now it won't change.
Say...when will the phpbb3 migration occur... it's been threatened for so long now and not a peep about it yet.

There won't be any more changes to the current codebase.
If you change your password, it will not be emailed back to you. That's an initial signup thing only.

See: Bug 431106 - Forum Comfirmation Email Includes Plaintext Password
But indeed, we really don't want to change the current installation. The upgrade to phpBB 3 has not been forgotten, even though it has definitely taken longer than intended.
