|
|
Hello,
libjpeg.so.8 is missing in my system, and I need it. It should be provided by media-libs/jpeg BUT that package is not compatible with media-libs/libjpeg-turbo, which is needed for other reasons.
I guess that the solution will be the migration to the new approach to multilib systems in Gentoo. But I read the wiki page and it looks to me not completely safe for my requirements: I cannot afford to have the system down for some days if something does not work properly in the process (the docs clearly state that problems are expected to arise).
In this old thread one possible hack is proposed. But, is there an official solution to this problem?

You could always try opening a bug, it doesn't have a maintainer right now but maybe someone will want to add support anyway. Not something I've tested myself. |

^ on a related note, steam-overlay has media-libs/jpeg-compat based on that. I don't use it but seen it mentioned on gentoo-dev (also farewell media-libs/jpeg). |

Since this topic came up again, it should be pointed out that media-libs/jpeg is on its way to be last-rited. |
