Hi, ALL,
I did the full install starting by booting the SystemRescueCD (because the laptop didn't have wired interface).
The install was successful, I installed and configured GRUB and then rebooted and removed the USB drive.

Laptop just froze displaying the line:

Loading kernel-5.xxxxxxxxx

So I put the USB drive back, and try reboot.
The SystemRescueCD have an option in GRUB to boot from the hard drive. I selected it and the boot process completed successfully.

Can somebody please help resolve this?

I don't want to keep the USB drive in the laptop...

Thank you.

Considering your problem description it has nothing to do with kernel, looks more like botched Grub installation. You haven't told us whether this is EFI or legacy boot. Also, in your other thread I asked for disk layout, a request you ignored.

Hi,
This is EFI setup.
The disk layout is just like in the HB for Gentoo:

/dev/sda1 - EFI poartition
/dev/sda2 - swap
/dev/sda3 - root.

Thank you.

I think it's reading your kernel and freezing. That's the sign of a botched kernel. Install a binary kernel which should easily get you booted, then you can work on your normal gentoo-sources at your leisure. (it's not cheating)

Hi,
Do you see anything wrong with my kernel config?

At the same time - I don't think its kernel, because I am able to boot from SystemRescueCD, by electing "Boot from Hard Drive". So, Jaglover might be correct.

Thank you.

You are right, of course. Rats. I'll give it a good look tomorrow and try to get a clue.

Your kernel config URL comes up blank: https://dpaste.com/CK5AC8XS80here and https://dpaste.com/CK5AC8XS80
ADDED: Appears that https://dpaste.com/CK5AC8XS8 works.
You should fix that.

OpenRC or SystemD?
Check BIOS boot settings.
Redo GRUB install and configuration.

Try running efibootmgr in a terminal shell. It will inform you. If it shows boot options, then it booted in UEFI. If it complains, it's running in traditional BIOS mode. That information might be informative.

is current bios installed?

And the lspci is as follows (from SystemRescueCD):
Code:
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Wani [Radeon R5/R6/R7 Graphics] (rev c8) (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])
    ...

The kernel is here.
Code:
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y
...
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU is not set
...
# Frame buffer hardware drivers
#
...
# CONFIG_FB_EFI is not set
...
# CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE is not set

Try rebuilding your kernel with:
Code:
Device Drivers  --->
    Graphics support  --->
    < > ATI Radeon
    <*> AMD GPU
        Frame buffer Devices  --->
        -*- Support for frame buffer devices  --->
        [*]   EFI-based Framebuffer Support
        [*]   Simple framebuffer support

Hi,
I don't have those options under "AMD GPU".
And they are not here at all.

Which kernel do you use?

Thank you.
