|
|
I am confused as hell right now.
I was pretty sure I was running openRC, but
Code: |
$ init --version
SysV init version: 2.99
|
init shows up as sysV?
and I also have `systemd-tmpfiles`, though I don't think that means I'm on systemD
but also I have loads of openRC things?
Code: |
$ openrc
openrc openrc-init openrc-run openrc-shutdown
|
`/sbin/init` is not a symlink to anything?
`/etc/inittab` exists, so sysV?
and on boot it says Its openRC?
so am I on openRC or sysV? or somehow on both?
wait no, I'm sorry, I am an idiot, it's spawning openRC with sysV init via inittab (i think) _________________ regards,

Code: | eselect profile list | grep '\*' |
If you don't know what init you're using, it's probably the profile's default.
Openrc is a dependency manager. It uses sysvinit as pid 1 process (aka the actual init, the thing that starts everything else and takes care of orphans) |

init, ie PID1 can be satisfied via sysvinit or openrc-init but by default it is sysvinit.
You can switch to openrc-init via following these steps https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OpenRC/openrc-init _________________

Read the news:
Code: | eselect news read new |
or, if already read,
Code: | eselect news read all |
then scroll back through the display.
You will find an article about "systemd-tmpfiles."
Also, https://www.gentoo.org/support/news-items/, with attention to 7/15/2021. _________________ Andy Figueroa
