What is the Admin CD found on the main gentoo.org downloads page for amd64 and x86?
One screen down on this page just below the Minimal Install CD here: https://www.gentoo.org/downloads/ _________________ Andy Figueroa

Yeah, thanks, I'd found that bug report. It's still a mystery. Somebody is keeping it up to date. Why? _________________ Andy Figueroa

Seems like a good idea to have an install method with a more capable environment from which to work. I haven't gotten around to making a replacement for the previously Gentoo based "rescue" CD, so I'm guessing the Admin CD would work instead. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

It's pretty lame to have a "more capable environment" with zero documentation regarding its capability or use. Why the secrecy? In my opinion, this just looks bad for Gentoo.
Just about any decent distribution's live-cd will make a lovely rescue environment, and some have been specifically cooked-up to serve that need. For example, here is an excellent one with some minimal but sufficient documentation. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-linux/files/Community_Respins/MX-Workbench/ _________________ Andy Figueroa

I thought there was some mention of it having more tools installed, but I cannot find it. I agree that it ought to at least have a comparably minimum mention here as does the minimal CD.
I'm fine with live environments existing, but I don't use them. Primarily I don't want to have to download unnecessary (for me) gigabytes of GUI and then deal with a painfully slow environment for the 5 minutes I'm in that environment.
While looking for a description of the admin CD, I did notice a "live-GUI", though I'm only guessing that it is a new iteration of the old LiveDVD.
And now that I'm thinking about it, I may be incorrectly recalling that the Admin CD was originally an internal tool, so perhaps that could be why it never got any documentation. As an example, see also: Catalyst. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Ouch -- that live-gui at 4.9 GB must have the kitchen sink included. _________________ Andy Figueroa

ix.io is down. Please update. Thanks a lot.
In particular, I think ZFS is still not included in the minimal CD, it is only available in the Admin CD, isn't it? How about if the LiveGUI CD includes ZFS? I think we need a list of modules of each of them, so we can compare them.
Update: Sorry i overlooked. There is a nice list for LiveGUI ISO. It does not include ZFS. _________________ - midnite. |

Including the versions of each ISO would probably be helpful as well, although I'm guessing they don't change significantly. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
