Salve a tutti. Premessa obbligatoria, sono nuovo di esperienza Gentoo e mi sono buttato nell'avventura di installarlo sul mio vecchio ibook g4 con processore ppc. Arrivo finalemte ad installare xorg ma mi ritrovo con degli errori di avvio che non riesco a risolvere.

Da quel poco che riesco a capire da lsmod i moduli radeon sono installati e nel syslog viene rilevato il monitor 1 mentre /dev/dri/card0 non esiste proprio.

un'altra cosa strana è la mancanza del file /run/dbus/system_bus_socket.
per caso hai un problema con dbus?

Si vero, non avevo caricato il servizio in default.
Ho ricompilato il kernel facendo attenzione ad inserire fbdev ma niente, mi da sempre gli stessi erroti

Non era compilato ma pur facendolo ottengo lo stesso errore. Con un xorg.conf sono riuscito ad eliminare alcuni errori, ora mi rimangono questi:

ma non riesco a modificare yaboot.conf ( per le mie conoscenze informatiche è stata già un'impresa far funzionare il bootloader) mi dice che il file non è scrivibile e se lo modifico su /etc/yaboot.conf e poi faccio
mi dice che la partizione è montata e abortisce. Ho provato umount ma non funziona |

Si, ho quello. Ho anche provato a mettere Identifier "Radeon 9550" che è la versione della scheda video ma non cambia nulla.
Grazie, si conosco la nuova forma di configurazione dei files per xorg ma per fare una prova di autoconfigurazione ho lanciato Xorg -configure e lui crea un file xorg.conf. |

Ho eliminato xorg.conf ed installato fbdev ed ora sembrerebbe che vada, o almeno non da errori anche se il server nasce e muore subito. Questo è probabilmente dovuto alla mancanza del gestore delle finestre. Sto istallando xfce e tra (parecchie) ore verificherò. |

Allora, il problema era il driver mancante. Senza file di configurazione e con fbdev , xorg lavora bene. Ora devo solo eliminare xfce e cercare un wm piu' leggero perche' questa povera macchina di 19 anni non ce la fa . Grazie per la pazienza. Sono gia' contento di riuscire a scrivere questo messaggio, anche se a rallentatore |

Mancava fbdev. Non so perche' ma con la configurazione manuale avesse smesso di segnalarmi la mancanza di questo driver e cosi' ho erroneamente pensato di aver imboccato la strada giusta. invece aveva ragione xorg a chiedermelo. |
