Buying an Asus mobo with a 2.0GHz Opteron and 1GB of ECC-DDR 333 Ram. Will I see performance gains on emerge times in regular 32-bit Gentoo? I don't want to jump right into 64-bit... plan on dual-booting 32 & 64-bit installs of Gentoo for right now. Just curious about the 32-bit side of things.
Thanks,

well if you plan on running everything in 32 bit mode, then your Opteron (or Athlon64) should pretty much act like an AthlonXP with the same clock speed and cache. I bought an Athlon64 3200+ a few weeks back but must hold off from using it as i can't get my Gentoo install to recognise the same PCI ltmodem. So i have to wait and fall back on my old AthlonXP 1800+ ... _________________ Zak: Luke's making a 3D interface for Linux"
