Most devs don't really look at the forums, and those that do may not even be involved with these packages (I don't use firefox nor librewolf myself, nor am I involved in their maintenance), or not necessarily notice every threads that could concern them. It's not the right way to reach them.
And the bug is barely 1 day old, bit early to say it's getting ignored.
Edit: also these threads were filled for unsupported software, devs ignoring that sounds normal if anything |

How can I get the bug to the attention of the librewolf devs?
I asked of the bug for someone to tell them, as I cannot make an account on gitlab to tell them myself.
Surely this isn't the right way of reporting this.

The bug is one day old, but discussion of the forum has been happening for over a month. _________________ My overlay: https://github.com/stefan11111/stefan_overlay

There's a difference between ignoring and not even knowing it's there.
Edit: also, taking time doesn't necessarily mean it's being ignored |

Where should I have filed them?
They started as threads about librewolf, which is in a half-supported state like steam.
I have later confirmed that the issue also affects firefox, which I think is supported as it's in ::gentoo.
I can't just open new threads in portage and programming and recreate the posts myself.
For now I will add the patched ebuild to my overlay.
I will open a new thread in portage and programming about the other issue I pointed out. _________________ My overlay: https://github.com/stefan11111/stefan_overlay

Again, threads aren't right for this. This isn't a bug tracker. You can use it for discussions to figure out what's wrong, then file a bug to get it fixed.
Filing a bug was the right thing to do, but it's barely been a day. |

I do not think that the registration at Gitlab.com requires any financial information. And it is also possible to use Google, Github, Twitter, Bitbucket and Salesforce as identity provider.
By the way, LibreWolf has a website containing some hints how to contact them. |

Tried with github, still asks for financial information.
@Ionen
I will ask this here as it seems i have a bigger chance of dev response in this thread.
I added ebuilds for librewolf and firefox to my overlay.
I have librewolf emerged from ::librewolf with a modified ebuild.
How can I tell portage I installed it from ::stefan_overlay without rebuilding librewolf, as it's a 3 hour rebuild.
I tried it like this, but it doesn't work:
Code: | $ doas emerge --noreplace -1av librewolf::stefan_overlay |

Threads are not useful if it's to report an issue rather than request help/pointers from people or similar. Unless you're just trying to figure out whether it's really a bug or not before reporting it.
Otherwise feels more like public complains (mostly read by normal users rather than devs), which don't really accomplish anything vs reporting issues to the actual maintainer(s). It "can" happen but getting noticed by devs shouldn't be a goal when making forum threads, using user mailing lists, chatting on the IRC support channel, or similar stuff. Even if devs do notice the thread, they'll often want you to file a bug anyway so they can track the issue (assuming it's valid). |

What about the dev mailing list?
Is that a fine place to report a bug?
Also, isn't irc a way of communicating with the devs?
Sam and Arsen seem to always be there.
I've seen irc discussion being referenced in bugs and threads. _________________ My overlay: https://github.com/stefan11111/stefan_overlay

Dev mailing list is more for general discussion of ideas, reviewing major/eclass changes and such. Per-package bugs still belong on the bug tracker.
Also shouldn't push everything on the same few devs because they happen to be there (unless at most if it's urgent and affecting many), packages have their own maintainers assigned (e.g. your bug is assigned to the mozilla team which knows the package better). If that fails (if there's no maintainer or they're unresponsive), then can check if someone else can handle or ping the maintainers for attention. |

That is bound to happen as I don't think it's a good idea to just open bugs without first consulting here.
If those same few devs are the only ones here, they will see such threads. _________________ My overlay: https://github.com/stefan11111/stefan_overlay

stefan11111,
Discussing bugs and potential bugs on the forums is fine.
The developers work queue with user is via bugs.gentoo.org, for gentoo bugs or other projects issue tracking system.
A few devs read the forums. However, the only way to get attention is to file a bug. That holds even if you also have a github PR too.
PRs that close bugs are more likely to be followed up than PRs that don't _________________ Regards,

I see. Should I open a pr with the patch I linked in the bug?
What amazes me is how you don't join some of the recent threads here on the forums, especially as the king of gentoo.

stefan11111,
Like everyone else in Gentoo, I'm a volunteer and its a hobby.
I have other calls on my time too.
Go ahead and file the bug and PR.
If there is a maintainer, read the metadata.xml, the bug will be assigned to them. That's the start.
If the package is maintainer-needed, any sympathetic can address the bug. That does not mean that anyone actually will.
Expect to get some constructive crit either on the bug, the PR or both. _________________ Regards,
