Well...using VESA my monitor would only use 60Hz refresh...this is a problem for me in a major way. So, just for giggles, I decided to use X's generic Radeon driver...and guess what. It worked. I'm running at 1024x768x32@85Hz. This is (slightly) preferable to using VESA at any rate...hope this helps someone.
EDIT: Now I just gotta get my mouse-wheel working... |

2.6.2-gentoo-r1...Whats really wierd is that last night I used the radeon driver for like an hour...the it locked...then it'd only go for like...a minute. Oh well....back to headaches and eyestrain. Does anyone know how to chage the refresh rate with VESA from 60Hz? I REALLY can't deal with that. I've got to run it at at least 75. |

I have a Radeon 9000 working with no 3d support using Xfree 4.3 and am about to go up to 4.3.99 or 4.4 pre just to try to get the 3d support though xfree-drm wont install for some reason. possibly issues with the amd64 versioning / port |

Its only really the 9600+ cards that have the issues as I recall. I'm actually giving 4.3.99 (4.4 pre2) a shot just to see if it solves the stability problems...its supposed to. I read though that some apps wont compile against it...I wonder which ones... |
