last night i had steam running, played a game, then exited and also exited steam. did an chore here at home and then about an hour later started steam back up and it wouldn't start. i could't get it to start, and still can't.
what i have tried:
1) removing all steam directories in my home directory so steam installs itself. the re-install seems to work, however steam still won't start.
2) checked the gentoo steam wiki to ensure any changes since i first installed steam were up-to-date. they are.
3) last night ran emerge -e @world. this finished, rebooted, and then tried the above step to clean up all remnants of steam from my home directory again. steam seems to re-installs itself fine, however still won't launch.
when starting steam, it's complaining that steamwebhelper has crashed. i looked at the steamwebhelper log file (which points me to cef_log.txt). in cef_log.txt i can see the following (this is the entire contents of the txt file):

is anyone else running into this? no updates were done to my box in the hour steam was closed, and i don't recall that there was an update to steam when i tried to relaunch it.
i'm using an nvidia card with the proprietary drivers, stable version (535.154.05).

| i tried downgrading my nvidia driver to 525.147.05, still same error message. |

Looking at the Github issues for Steam on Linux, it seems there are several people complaining about the exact same thing. So I think this is just another certified Valve Linux Moment™. |

| apparently with a recent steam update changes have been made and having your home directory in an nfs mount causes steam to not work. i have tried creating a local home directory and installed steam and it works now. it still does not work if my home directory is located on an nfs mount. |
