From time to time I'm getting this message for absolutely no reason. I'm pretty sure there aren't other posts than mine from my IP, so it looks strange. I've made only one other post and it's not like trying to make another one in an instant. At least I needed to copy the thread URL and post it into the other thread which is related.

Best Regards,
Georgi

p.s. and here I am, making this post and still getting the same message for the other I'm trying to make.

I think that it is mitigation against accounts created for spamming, before moderators can take action.

That's not the case, it's a replay.

OK, here it is again. First it was "error posting", then that again. I haven't posted, so it cannot be that soon.

It often happens - even to me - that somebody want to answer a post with quoting and gets an error. When using Quote, the forum software takes over the existing title and adds a "Re:". If the title was already close to the maximum length before, it can happen that the maximum length of a title is exceeded with the added "Re:" and this error appears in the post. I then delete the complete title each time and try to send the post again. But because this ATTEMPT already counts as a posting, the ticker is already running. In the past (when I was not yet a moderator) I had to wait two minutes to be able to post again.

The addition of "Re:" does not happen if you only reply.

Eventually I posted exactly what I had typed the first time without touching the title.

But you might be right, because the second time I'm not sure if I pressed quote or replay. I think it was the latter as I already had the post in the buffer.

And also I've noticed a correlation with quotes but it wasn't clear.

Georgi

OK, so I think I've figure out why that happens. The explanation is a combination of the below two posts:

This topic behaves in a funny way right now. Forum reports it as 5-pages long, but jumping to 5th page errors out with "No posts exist for this topic"
Things like that happen now and then in different threads; kinda looks like an incomplete deletion where the post found by search _should_ be at certain offset, but something else's been kicked out of queue and now the offset reported by search is out of bounds.
My understanding is that it is not an incomplete deletion, but rather an incomplete creation. One or more users attempted to post in that thread with posts that failed some aspect of validation (such as post title too long). Those failed posts exist enough to cause the thread to claim to be 100+ posts long, and thus offer you a link to page (100 / 20) = 5, but do not exist enough to actually be shown when viewing the thread, so when you try to start on post 100, the forum fails, because it cannot find sufficient preceding posts. I am not aware of a way (other than direct SQL updates) to repair such threads.

So what happens is when you try to replay and the title becomes too long, there's a partially created post which prevents you from posting another. It appears as though you're trying to post concurrently. I guess a timeout must pass so you can post again.

Best Regards,
Georgi

This time my last post was successful and I had to type at leas a couple of sentences for the next one which doesn't look like that short period of time to trigger flood protection or something. It doesn't contain a title. And I bet this particular post will be published successfully, while the other one I'm trying to post will still give me trouble.

EDIT: it sure happened as I expected.
EDIT2: after log out and log in, it was posted successfully.

Best Regards,
Georgi
