I play Squad quite a lot, but the game does not detect my microphone with versions of Glorious Eggroll later than 8.25 or so (such as 9.2), nor with recent versions of Proton.
ArmA 3 does detect my microphone with Glorious Eggroll 9.2, so it seems like the problem might be specific to the game.
I installed Arch Linux on the same hardware, and everything works with with G.E. 9.2, so it seems like the problem is also specific to my Gentoo configuration, some curious intersection of my configuration, the game, and Proton ~8+.
Does anyone have any ideas? It's such an obscure problem, so I don't expect much, but figured I would post it here. Thanks to anyone who does reply.

This is a bit embarrassing, but I figured it out. It was just a configuration setting in the game's files.
https://www.protondb.com/app/393380
I just needed to adjust the AudioInputDevice lines in these files:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/393380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/SquadGame/Saved/Config/Game.ini
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/393380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/SquadGame/Saved/Config/Engine.ini |
