Twice in as many days, I've been logged out of Xfce when I was AFK. I don't really know where to look for log errors, but since slim is my login manager, I thought that would be a good place to start. Tail /var/log/slim.log shows

Code:

xfce4-gvfs-mount-plugin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-linelight-plugin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-settings-helper: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-places-plugin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-mount-plugin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-mailwatch-plugin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
<unknown>: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfdesktop: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfce4-panel: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
xfwm4: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.

Could that cause slim to log out the current user? What else could it be? Where else could I look?

I'm wondering if Xscreensaver is the culprit. I've been using the Matrix module that comes with it. Just now, the screen locked up while screensaver was active - couldn't even ctrl-alt-F1. Switched to another module, will see if this continues.

Necromancing my own post. Moved on to lightdm, problem disappeared. Now the problem is back and something keeps logging me out multiple times per day.

Have you tried disabling the screensaver? I'd even uninstall it temporarily to rule it out.

What does /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or possibly $HOME/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log contain?
Check the folders and there should be also a .old file of the previous run.
