Intentaré explicarme lo mejor posible ...
Bien, instalé Gentoo en una máquina Tyan S7002 vieja (servidor) con un planteamiento LVM sin LUKS...
El sistema básico terminó correctamente, Grub se instaló con éxito, el equipo se reinicia sin problemas, la configuración de servidor funciona como nunca, el sistema gráfico funciona correctamente (Nvidia GT-1030 con driver original), además, con KDE y .... ahí surge el problema ...

¿Cómo se puede solucionar?
Nunca tuve problemas con planteamientos de carácter normal, es decir, 4 particiones (1 para grub, 2 para /boot, 3 para swap, y 4 para raíz), aunque instalara indistintamente Gentoo con Fluxbox, o con KDE, o con Gnome, o con Lumina, y o con XFCe,
Muchas gracias por leerme y aportar alguna posible solución, estoy pensando en tener que formatear el planteamiento LVM con KDE e instalar de nuevo Gentoo.

En otras máquinas que tengo un planteamiento LVM me funciona OK con Fluxbox y/o con Gnome ....

En tu sistema, qtwebengine necesita 34 GiB de RAM para construirse ya que has configurado MAKEOPTS con -j17 y solo tienes 32GB aprox entre RAM y swap. Tienes varias opciones:
- Disminuir temporalmente el valor de -j a algo mas razonable como por ejemplo -j10
- Aumentar la swap por ejemplo con un archivo temporal de unos 4 GB
- Ver si puedes prescindir de qtwebengine añadiendo la USE -qtwebengine y viendo si no te impide tener todos los paquetes que quieres (si quieres un kde limpio esta opción no te va a servir).

Muchas gracias por el consejo, amigo quilosaq ... 
Algo de eso había leído en el manual de Linux From Scratch, su recomendación es que no se deben configurar todos los 'cores' de la CPU en la compilación por no saturarla en su cometido, no asociaba ésto en Gentoo habida cuenta de que en mis otros equipos no he tenido ningún problema con la variable MAKEOPTS="-jX" en instalar KDE, lo cual me sorprendió y me dejó estupefacto ....

La recomendación estandar en el manual Gentoo para configurar MAKEOPTS [1] es poner -jX siendo X la menor de estas 2 cantidades:
- Número de hilos de procesamiento que tiene la CPU
- Cantidad de RAM instalada dividido poe 2 GiB
En tu caso si tienes 2 CPUs el primer valor daría 16 y el segundo 7 por lo que correspondería:
