Hello,
to update my system (Openrc) - on a very old computer - from default/linux/x86/17.0/desktop (exp) to profile 23.0, I misread the instructions and I chose 23.0/i686/desktop (stable) instead of 23.0/i686/split-usr (stable).
Then I successfully reinstalled binutils, gcc, glibc, ran env-update && source /etc/profile and re-emerged libtool, but unable to update -- emptytree @world.
The next day, the computer boots normally (xfce), I continue: only baselayout can be updated successfully.
Since emerge no longer works.
I switched to the correct profile (split-usr), ran env-update && source /etc/profile, tried to compile binutils again, emerge fails and complains:

sys-devel/binutils-2.42-r1::gentoo was built with the following:
USE="nls plugins zstd (-cet) -debuginfod -doc -gold -gprofng -hardened -multitarget -pgo -static-libs -test -vanilla"

LDFLAGS="-Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--undefined-version"

And it's the same if I want to emerge any other package.

A path problem? Emerge can't find the path to rm, chmod ... commands?
At first even the ls command didn't work, I created a file /etc/env.d/99local-tmp:
Code:

/home/schule # cat /etc/env.d/99local-tmp
PATH="/bin:/sbin"

Now the echo £PATH command says:
Code:

/home/schule # echo $PATH
/usr/lib/ccache/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/opt/bin:/usr/lib/llvm/17/bin:/etc/eselect/wine/bin:/bin:/sbin

I know, it's not very clean, but it works for bash commands
Sorry, I'm not a specialist, I certainly didn't do the right thing, but Gentoo has been running on my computer since 2010 (admittedly more and more slowly) and until now, I have always found on your forum the answers to the some problems I had.

Thanks to anyone who could help me!

Welcome to the forums. I have seen a few other threads where people made this exact mistake, and they were able to recover from it. I do not recall the exact steps they followed, but I think it was very similar to what you did.
