Did anyone know if there was a way to compile emul-linux after its base was installed?<-
i saw a post back in 2005 that showed a discreapency of common-awareness that said they were adding abi_x32 to the flags and
still using it to build something that depended on emul-linux for clarification

The emul- packages are long dead. They've been replaced with multilib profiles and the abi_x86_32 USE flag.

If you're running a really old version of Gentoo, you need to update it. You have 3 choices in that case:

1) Blow away everything and start over
2) https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Upgrading_Gentoo#Updating_old_systems
3) Go hunting for old ebuilds and distfiles and iteratively build up your system until you can compile the latest tree.

The emul- packages were specially built to provide x86 code on amd64 systems. As salahx says, that approach is long gone. What are you trying to do that led you to ask this question, and reference a 19 year old post?
