|
|
I'm in the process of reinstalling Gentoo from scratch, almost, didn't prepare the drives because they were already prepared and went straight to mounting the root partition.
Here are the exact steps I have taken:
*booting from the live Gentoo install;
*mounted /mnt/gentoo on /dev/nvme0n1p3
*copied the contents of make.conf file
*ran tar xpvf stage3-amd64-desktop-openrc-20240728T170359Z.tar.xz --xattrs-include='*.*' --numeric-owner
*pasted the contents of previously copied make.conf file into a new one
*ran arch-chroot /mnt/gentoo
*mounted /efi on /dev/nme0n1p1
*ran emerge --ask --oneshot app-portage/cpuid2cpuflags and echo "*/* $(cpuid2cpuflags)" > /etc/portage/package.use/00cpu-flags
*ran emerge --ask --verbose --update --deep --newuse @world and emerge --ask --depclean
*changed the timezone and ran emerge --config sys-libs/timezone-data
*generated locale and selected en_US.utf8
*reloaded the environment
*ran emerge --ask sys-kernel/linux-firmware
*ran emerge --ask sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin and got emake failed error
The log for that error:https://bpa.st/OLHQ
Contents of make.conf: Code: | COMMON_FLAGS="-O2 -pipe"
CFLAGS="${COMMON_FLAGS}"
CXXFLAGS="${COMMON_FLAGS}"
FCFLAGS="${COMMON_FLAGS}"
FFLAGS="${COMMON_FLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j4"

# NOTE: This stage was built with the bindist USE flag enabled

I suspect you mixed merged-usr stage3 with split-usr profile.
When they ask you what profile is, you post the whole name, not just some general description.

I asked you for emerge --info. Are you going to start providing the information you're asked for or should I just stop trying to help you?

@all:
It should be mentioned that this is a follow-up thread to https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1170200-highlight-.html
@fgsfds:
If I were you, I would have reformatted the partitions to have the cleanest possible reinstallation.
@AndrewAmmerlaan:
Thanks a lot for jumping in here, because unfortunately I can't understand why this is happening:
Code: | /usr/libexec/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/ld: cannot find -lelf: No such file or directory |

Please share the output of:
- emerge -pv virtual/libelf
- emerge -pv dev-libs/libelf
- emerge -pv dev-libs/elfutils _________________ OS: Gentoo 6.10.12-gentoo-dist, ~amd64, 23.0/desktop/plasma/systemd

Please try to run:
It should return:
Code: | libelf.so: /usr/lib/libelf.so /usr/lib64/libelf.so |
If it does not, then please re-emerge dev-libs/elfutils, and retry. _________________ OS: Gentoo 6.10.12-gentoo-dist, ~amd64, 23.0/desktop/plasma/systemd

That's fine, you have ABI_X86="64 -32" whereas I have ABI_X86="64 32". But you shouldn't need the 32 bit version to build the kernel.
After re-emerging elfutils, does installing gentoo-kernel-bin work, or does it return the same or different error? _________________ OS: Gentoo 6.10.12-gentoo-dist, ~amd64, 23.0/desktop/plasma/systemd

That wasn't fair Georgi. You didn't ask for emerge --info. You asked "... you post the whole name, not just some general description." You showed "emerge --info" as code but didn't indicate what to make of it. The whole name of the profile was provided in response. So, let's give the new user a break. _________________ Andy Figueroa
