Hi Experts, I have installed gentoo on a new server, however I am not able to emerge any packages and getting below error for all of them -

checking whether we are cross compiling... configure: error: in '/var/tmp/portage/app-arch/gzip-1.13-r1/work/gzip-1.13':

If you meant to cross compile, use '--host'.

You mentioned this is a new install, but that version of binutils/gcc/portage/... is old. Please use a new stage3.

Thanks Sam, I have done emerge-webrsync , shouldn't that download the latest portage ? Is stage3 still required ?
By the way I have fixed this by changing the profile from split to 17.
How does this profile change worked, I am not very sure.

Hi!

emerge-webrsync is OK, and changing profiles between major versions (17.1 to 23.0) requires following careful instructions.

But the problem is, the base you've started with is a few years old. This makes things unnecessarily hard. In theory, it is possible to upgrade it, but if this is a new install, you shouldn't have used such an old stage3 to begin with?

You are right Sam, and I will go ahead with the profile upgrade after reading the instructions carefully. Thanks again for all your help and guidance.
