hello, I would like to upgrade my desktop to KDE 6.

I created a file /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/plasma with content:
Code:
kde-plasma/plasma-meta ~amd64

I receive a stable message:
Quote:
emerge --ask --verbose kde-plasma/plasma-meta

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 2.78 s (backtrack: 1/20).

[ebuild R ] kde-plasma/plasma-meta-5.27.11-r1:5::gentoo USE="bluetooth browser-integration crash-handler crypt cups desktop-portal discover display-manager firewall handbook kwallet legacy-systray networkmanager pulseaudio sddm smart systemd wallpapers -accessibility -colord (-elogind) -flatpak -grub -gtk -plymouth -sdk -thunderbolt" 0 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 KiB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] no

Quitting.

It also appears when I specify wildcards:
Code:
kde-plasma/plasma-meta ~*
kde-plasma/plasma-meta **.

I would be grateful for advice on how to pull KDE 6. Thanks.

What happens if you tell Portage to install the version you want, with emerge --oneshot --ask --verbose '>=kde-plasma/plasma-meta-6'?

Thank you very much for your response, the process has moved forward. Now I get, that emerge trying to pull plasma-meta-6.1.4 but it is masked in ~amd64. I will continue to look into this. Thanks!

That suggests your attempt to keyword-accept this was not effective. What is the output of namei -l /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/* ; cat -n /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/*?

Or maybe you just wait a few more days until it is stable anyway.

Wow thank you for the gentle hint! 8)

Then you will see a lot of posts
"How long until KDE 5 is removed from Portage"
"How to keep KDE 5 after it is removed from Portage"

Hello, I created manually one file in this directory: /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/plasma, which contains one string
Code:
kde-plasma/plasma-meta ~amd64
.
I also tried
Code:
kde-plasma/plasma-meta ~*
and
Code:
kde-plasma/plasma-meta **
with the same result.

I read posts yesterday about issues that are currently going on with Plasma 6 yet (like wayland and pipewire). Maybe it makes sense to wait a few months yet.

Thanks a lot for all answers!

You forgot "Why on earth did you unmask KDE 6? My sound/multiscreen/encrypted folders/keyboard/-O3--trust-me-i-know-what-im-doing compilation is now fscked, and nobody ever wanted this stoopid upgrade anyway..." ;-)

Don't do it to yourself. It's not worth it.
