Hi, ALL,
I am running GNOME with X on the system that does not have a wired slot for the network.

And the top GNOME panel does not have an icon for the WiFi.

Trying the "Settings -> Network" fails with the message:

Quote:

Network unavailable
An error has occurred and network cannot be used.
Error details: NeyworkManager not running

I don't have NetworkManager running.
I'm using dhcpcd with wpa_supplicant.

How do I get this icon on?

Thank you.

Probably gnome "Settings -> Network" works only with NetworkManager.
Try to install net-misc/dhcpcd-ui.

Hi,
I installed and configured it according to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Dhcpcd-ui.

What's next? What should I run?

Thank you.

Not using this program I don't know what the executable is called but then find out with the equery f net-misc/dhcpcd-ui command.

I think it only works with Network Manager, disable dhcpcd and wpa_supplicant services, install Network Manager and enable the service(https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/NetworkManager)
