|
|
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to convert my steam to use only system libraries and want to use the gentoo package (app-emulation/wine-proton) for Proton. Unfortunately I haven't found any resources on how to make this version work with steam. The proton package from Valve git installs itself into the right folder but the gentoo package doesn't. I've tried setting my wine prefix to .steam/root/compatibilitytools.d/ but that doesn't work. The whole time I'm asking myself if this wine-proton is even the same as the regular Proton? It has the same version number but the gentoo package lists another github repo as the upstream link than the regular proton.
I'm kinda lost right now, any help would be appreciated

Just in case it wasn't clear, wine-proton is not proton, it's *only* the wine fork that Proton uses packaged for standalone usage without steam (works the same as wine-vanilla/staging, except with better compatibility with a lot of games).
Trying to hook system wine into Proton is unlikely to work well anyhow, not intended for this at all.
On a side-note, there are overlays that package e.g. proton-ge-custom and that may be closer to what you want, not that I really know much about these proton variants, or steam even.
