Hello folks,
yesterday I upgraded to Plasma 6.1.4 and I immediately realised the UI, especially animations are very sluggish. Never had an issue with Plasma 5 before.
I have a ThinkPad P14s, with a i7-1260P and Intel Iris plus Nvidia T550 hybrid GPU.
I have the nvidia GPU "turned off", or as much of it as possible at least. So technically I am relying only on the Intel GPU, though I don't really know much as to how the hybrid gpu system works and I know for fact that without the nvidia-drivers the laptop will perform awfully.

I have nvidia-drivers version 550.107.02 installed, Wayland, and kernel 6.6.47-gentoo-x86_64. I am aware there is an issue with Plasma and the GSP firmware as mentioned here https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/major-kde-plasma-desktop-frameskip-lag-issues-on-driver-555/293606, though my GPU doesn't have GSP firmware, so that is not the issue.
I have also cleared $HOME/.cache but no go.

Two things may affect your performance:
1. The session may have switched[/list] from X11 to Wayland. Plasma 6 installation does that (check the news). Just switch back to X11 when you login; or try to set up wayland to use hardware acceleration (good luck with that)
2. I have had some graphical slugishness issues even after switching back to X11 session. I had a small hint from a message related to this update (but don't know where): it said that if SDDM feels slow to respond, I should install the entropy daemon sys-apps/haveged. This fixed it for me. Note that this issue is related to the fact that I have systemd, not openrc. If you have openrc, this may not help. |

I am pretty certain it is running on Wayland.

How do I check if Wayland is using Graphic Acceleration? :S Also, I am using systemd. SDDM feels fine to me.

These are the only relevant errors I see related to the plasmashell binary. I am starting to think that there is nothing wrong with my setup and that this thing is just slow.. Never had an issue with Plasma 5. It was always speedy and smooth on this same laptop with this same setup. I have not changed anything beside upgrading from Plasma 5 to 6.
