plasma6 restart throws me to login shell . sddm ? (solved)

hi all

i have 6 boxes ATM with plasma6 . two of the boxes have strange behavior. if i want to shutdown or reboot plasma will throw me to login shell (if i set :

/etc/sddm.conf.d/override.conf=

I experienced similar, in my case though it was logout/switch user. The news item mentioned logging out in order to go back to x11 rather than the default wayland. So after some furtling I happened upon setting Session=plasmax11.desktop on another forum. That worked (ish), in that I got an x session and could log in/out and switch user. However I could not switch tty's, chvt threw an error (I didn't know chvt was a thing until further furtling). In the end I started using slim. Sddm > 0.18.1-r8 is a strange beast.

So anyway it's sddmn (that was a typo but it looks a bit like 'damn' so I'm leaving it in) not kool desktop environment the sixth that ought to be blamed.

i have tried quite a lot before reporting this . i want to say it is plasma to blame but i dont know. i have tested sddm with x11 and even experimental wayland support . wayland support may not even get me to plasma . other DMs i have tested is lightdm and qtgreet with wayfire. same issues there to.i have even tested with a new user , multiple
users and even start with empty session. but thanks for your feedback
