I've been following these two guides. To build the kernel, I run make, as usual, but get

make[3]: *** No rule to make target '/usr/src/initramfs/ugrd.cpio', needed by 'usr/initramfs_inc_data'. Stop.

The target directory (/usr/src/...) is built into the kernel, as required.
