Hello,
Since Hexchat is no longer maintained, the logical thing is it'll drop out of tree at one point or another. What other graphical IRC clients do you recommend? I honestly don't like BitchX or other console classics. It's a bit too many commands and keyboard shortcuts to learn for me. Also some of the shortcuts of BitchX I already use for other things and I'm not happy with the idea to switch to a FB console just to be able to use it the way I remember.

A possible option is using pidgin's irc module...though I'd think that's really weird...

Pidgin works very well for IRC; it's what I used before I migrated to Quassel.

I used to use kopete, but now use konversation.
But, as above, not a power user, more of a "I have to use IRC? Well at least it's better than using discord" user. |

No, No, I really like IRC (used it before 30 years; then a big break; and now again before 3 years when becaming mod) ... for quick and uncomplicated arrangements (e.g. #gentoo-wiki) ... and small talk

Since I use IRC very rarely I use thunderbird since it is also my mail client.

| If you use Thunderbird to read your mail/RSS etc, you can also connect to IRC with it. |

Thank you all for the suggestions. I tried a few things, particularly my attention was caught bu halloy, but I was unable to change the font in the channels. Only the titles, which is useless.
I think I'll stay with HexChat for as long as it is available and eventually move to Konversation. I hate that KDE design, but it doesn't seem to be something better.
I think I tried Polari in the past too and I very quickly unmerged it.

Indeed it is. Pidgin has never shined in any way for me. It was the only decent way to use ICQ back in the days, but with the days of ICQ, the days of that design style have gone too.

On another note, quassel turned out to be very good option. The only shortcoming I find for now is lack of spell-check. Also the fact that quassel-core still requires qt which makes it not suitable for running on a router.

Yes, GTK is preferable. But since I bought a decent computer and since there is a binhost, I started accepting QT options as well.
Srain doesn't look bad. The only problem I experience with it is I need to learn how to write its configuration. Also it's somewhat weird experience for somebody who's first touch with Internet was through mIRC... I don't like it. Quassel feels better.
I didn't try loqui but I see it's not maintained for 3 years now, so I guess I better not.

It looks like I'm moving to Quassel. The best working so far, you can have distributed client, meaning a server is running you can connect to, which connects to the actual IRC network, it can stay connected without the client being connected to it, it can be controlled from the client and you can pick up from where you left off. Only shortcoming is it the serve part, so called the core depends on QT and it cannot be installed on a tiny hardware like router, like you can do with bouncers.
But it still looks good, it's convenient and it supports SASL External authentication with an SSL certificate.
You can also build a monolithic client which directly connects to the network without the core in the middle.
