X: no automatic monitor configuration with xf86-video-intel

I am trying to get xbacklight working on my thinkpad t450s, so I installed the xf86-video-intel package; xbacklight works now, but it does not automatically configure my monitor and laptop screen setup anymore. I had the same issue on my previous debian install, but it was really a pain to have to mess with xrandr, so I was hoping someone could help me get the two working together. My WM is bspwm.

It is not recommended to use x11-apps/xbacklight in modern times as the RandR lighting is rarely implemented.

Instead, use sys-power/acpilight (which is a drop in replacement for the xbacklight command) or dev-libs/light (or any other implementation to modify /sys/class/backlight/).
Both of these tweak the kernel knobs of an LCD's brightness directly.
