Seems the problem only occurs if the window size and the video size is not matching.

If the window width is increased, left and right black areas appear (correct).

But when the window high increases the bottom of the video is cropped, the higher the window gets, the more pixels get cropped.

Hint : I am using KDE with X11 as wayland is freezing my desktop.

I have no idea but, for what it's worth, I'm seeing the same thing, I think -- an area cropped off the bottom of the image when the image aspect ratio doesn't match the screen aspect ratio.

I just took this to be a bug in VLC. There are enough alternatives to VLC that I haven't worried much about it, to be honest. The same files play fine with mplayer.

BR, Lars.

OK so at least it is not an error on my system :)

Where can I report such problems on vlc if it is possibly ONLY occuring in gentoo ?

Because in debian (a little bit older) I didn't have this problem :/

Debian almost certainly is using an older version of VLC. Debian is known for being behind. The first question I would ask is whether this is Gentoo-specific or version-specific.

I will also note that nowhere in this thread do I see mention of what version of vlc is impacted. While that could be inferred from the current stable keywords, this thread will outlast those keywords, so it would be helpful to mention the version(s) of vlc in which the problem was observed.

Is there a free-to-distribute video file which exhibits the problem? That would let other users test for whether the problem is observed broadly.

Sorry, I had the versions in the first draft of this ticket.

Gentoo 3.0.21
Debian (my version) 3.0.10

I had it yet with ALL videos I tried.

I just searched on gentoo system and found this file, possibly you also have this :

/usr/share/doc/docutils-0.21.2/html/docs/user/rst/images/pens.mp4

If someone tells me how to upload images for this forum, I can also show screens of the problem.

Yes, I have that file. You cannot upload images to the forum. You can link to images hosted elsewhere.
