I am concerned by /boot partition is too small. 500MB
On one of my gentoo systems I have the following partition setup:

Looking at the current installation guide the recommendation is a 1GB /boot partition.
I am a bit worried because I have a lot of time invested in configuring this system?

If you do not want to change your current layout, you can easily keep the 500MB. Just keep an eye on its contents. Like, if you have multiple working kernels to choose from. |

Well, are you running out of space in /boot?
One set of kernel + initramfs + map currently takes around 35MB on my primary machine. 0.5GB is plenty for /boot. I use 128MB on systems with small disks, up from 50MB I did roughly a decade ago. Used to be enough for GRUB and 3-5 kernels for many years, until it eventually became a hassle. I think 128MB will still be enough for a few years to come.
Obviously, your numbers won't be exactly the same, and definitely won't stay the same, but it is still a decent way to set expectations. So, how many kernels do you need on speed dial?
