My opinion on this report:
All people get older ... and most (unfortunately not all) are also mature with age. They react and act differently - mostly better - than 30 years ago. That is the reason why you shouldn't look too deep into the past. What counts is what you do today. If you say today that you have acted wrong in the past and you are sorry, this is a sign of maturity and insight.
We all appreciate the help we get here in this forum when we have a problem - so we appreciate every user who helps other users. Users who only want to cause trouble and do not contribute positively are undesirable (and will be banned).
I have been reading almost every new post every day for many years and therefore have a good overview of who writes what and, above all, the relationship between good, helpful answers and less good posts.
I see not only the ratio of the past, but also the change: better and better posts or more annoying posts. At some point the point is reached where the moderation acts ... or ... is happy that we have a new user who contributes positively here.
I see a one-time reference (advertisement) for a Gentoo repo as unproblematic ... but: “the dose makes the poison” ... it should remain a one-off ...
My grandpa always said: you should give everyone a second chance. If you take advantage of it, you can also start “anew”.
At the end of the day, it's up to you whether you are respected by others ... or banned as a troublemaker. Pointed remarks are not helpful ... _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

Topic: Guile compile time
Post: post 8845997
Reason: Rudely pointing out the error in a commit by Sam James - one that increased the compile time for "dev-scheme/guile" by a factor of five - behaviour which got him banned from Bugzilla (only to advertise his overlay).
Noted. Will look into it. -- Banana |
I would also like to report that same post as it contains a link that puts unnecessary pressure on the bug tracker with that meaningless search query. As to what is the purpose of publishing such a link, I can only guess.
[Administrator response: You raise a good point. I disabled that link, and moved its destination into my edit text for those curious where it leads. Executing it will now require the reader to deliberately copy it into the URL bar, since it is no longer a link. Hopefully, this will discourage people from idly running it. -Hu] |

I'm not sure who "everyone" is in your mind. That support thread is beyond rescuing after the lone heckler has gone as low as making Hitler references, unless you cut out the rotten part.
[Moderator note: Because the moderation team tries to deal with many (but not all) issues discreetly, it is sometimes not possible to give an informative answer. But the topic is closed. -- pietinger |

I really wonder if stefantalpalaru realises that his ways of interacting with people actually work against any positive technical contribution he could make, or improvement he'd like to happen...
