Hi there!

I have a question: is there a way to avoid recompiling or reinstalling after using emerge to install a package?

I'm trying to install Wine and I'm seeing this in my terminal:

Code:
Total: 24 packages (2 new, 22 reinstalls)

Why does it have to reinstall everything again?

Code:
Emerging (71 of 111) sys-devel/llvm-18.1.8-r1.

Is there a way to prevent REINSTALLS or an argument I can add to emerge, or perhaps another tool outside of Portage?

Thanks for your help. I apologize if this is a very basic question.

Can you post the output of
Code:
emerge -vpuU @world
?
Also
Code:
emerge --info
would be helpful.

Is there a way to prevent REINSTALLS or an argument I can add to emerge, or perhaps another tool outside of Portage?

Based on your emerge -vpuU output, it claims it is rebuilding, primarily, to add pulseaudio support in.

In this case I think a more logical request would have been to ask for the output without -v, as that tends to obscure the list of USE changes...

True. I'm so used to -v when I'm reviewing my own emerge output.
