Fairly self explanatory title, trying to run steam from games-util/steam-launcher::steam-overlay results in a crash with the following message:
Code:
steam.sh[23098]: Running Steam on gentoo 1.0.0.81 64-bit
steam.sh[23098]: STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled by the user
setup.sh[23146]: Steam runtime environment up-to-date!
steam-runtime-check-requirements[23199]: W: Child process exited with code 1: bwrap: Can't bind mount /oldroot/ on /newroot/: Unable to apply mount flags: remount "/newroot/dev/pts": Operation not permitted

steam.sh[23098]: Error: Steam now requires user namespaces to be enabled.

This requirement is the same as for Flatpak, which has more detailed
information available:
https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/wiki/User-namespace-requirements

I've tried reinstalling steam, I've tried reinstalling bubblewrap, I've tried rebooting, all the standard stuff. As of yet: nothing.

The fix was expectedly found in bubblewarp itself, but the fix was dumb.

After years of not having to use USE="suid," enabling it instantly fixed the issue
So there you go. sys-apps/bubblewrap suid in package.use
