I have a new latitude 7450 intel core ultra 5, and am booting the x86_minimal usb image and running into trouble.
I had to turn off secure boot - got into the boot menu, and when I hit enter to boot, I see a static unblinking cursor on an otherwise black screen.
I've walked away and gave it well over 20 minutes to see if it was just figuring something out, but no dice.
What have I done wrong?

EDIT - adding another detail: I booted from the admin image and get through the decompression, then to the menu, when I select Gentoo, it gives me the static unblinking cursor for a few seconds, then I get booted directly into Ubuntu...

I was hoping this was user-error rather than hardware support... I'm hoping to get a clean install w/out using the current host OS - only because that's how I've always done it.
Oh well - I'll see if I can muscle through it with other boot images, otherwise I'll run it through Ubuntu. |

I did it that way in the early 2000s. I had to do a reinstall a couple of times on newer machines over the years. I always did it that way too.
The last time I reinstalled Gentoo from scratch a few years back I did it by booting a different distro and chrooting to do the Gentoo install. The end result is essentially the same. I was able to use the machine and full OS, browser, etc. as well until I needed to reboot into the Gentoo installation.
In my opinion, it made the installation experience much easier. |

The Gentoo minimal ISO is just a toolkit to allow you to perform the install.
None of its code goes into the install. That all comes from the stage3, which provides the "must have" binaries.
It appears that the minimal ISO has not caught up with your hardware yet.
Meanwhile, use any toolkit that works.
