Do the fans make a lot of noise when the processor is at 100% during long compiles?
I put something underneath the back of the laptop to elevate the bottom and provide an air gap with the table top. It gets warm but the fans are relatively quiet.
Performance wise, as an example (with 8 cores being used) Code: | qlop -mtv gcc
2024-09-12T04:47:56 >>> sys-devel/gcc-13.3.1_p20240614: 15′36″ |
I do like being able to natively create and update/maintain an SD card for a Pi. |
From my experience, it stays quiet even under full load. But it gets very hot to the touch, especially in the top middle above the keyboard.
This has been true in both WSL and native boot.
I keep it elevated with a cardboard stand made from the box it came in
The initial one was "default" use flags, second one with LTO and Graphite and also adding the -flto=12 CXXFLAGS
Code: | $ sudo qlop -mtv gcc
2024-10-13T16:26:46 >>> sys-devel/gcc-14.2.1_p20240921: 20′17″
2024-10-14T15:35:29 >>> sys-devel/gcc-14.2.1_p20240921: 52′42″ |

I've just bought Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x.
The only ISO I managed to boot is from this repo: https://github.com/kuruczgy/x1e-nixos-config/
But I haven't started installing Gentoo yet. Not sure about firmware and differences from x86-64 platform yet. |
