Hello,
Do any of you run Portage on non gentoo installations? What is the process, are there any detailed resources available? Also, can you give me ideas on what are the alternatives for a secure minimal installation ISO? I see that from our network, the ISO keeps on changing, it's like 600-700 mb where as the typical size used to be 100-200 mb. Here's a screenshot of the page: https://ibb.co/0sCRYNP
Is that really the case or am I a victim of some kind of mitm attack?
As you can see from the Ubuntu download website (https://ibb.co/4M1kZm6), the size if over 5GB. Is that normal? I remember ISO's used to be around 3-4GB in size for a typical installation.
What are the pro active steps that we can take to ensure that we are able to get access to the right ISO's? I'm currently using a vpn, but it seems like it doesn't make much difference. Also, are there any guides for flashing linux ISO's manually onto USB? dd & other tools seems to be backdoored from my observation or are doing something shady most of the time.
Let me know what you guys think. |

The ISO sizes are normal. Most of the size of the minimal install CD is due to kernel drivers and firmware files to support hardware (e.g. just the firmware files for the various intel wifi cards are almost 200MB combined when unpacked). Blame the hardware vendors. |
